Abstract

Charles Bukowski’s drawing and painting deserve greater attention. He was well-versed in European art, showing the influence of Matisse, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Degas, not only in his subjects but also the style of his own work. His aphorism of “painting like a canary swallowed by a cat” explains how he disciplines topics with style.
