Abstract

Eugenio Trías' clearest and most direct relationship with politics was his activity as a commentator on Catalan, Spanish and international politics in the newspapers El País, El Mundo and ABC successively. In this article we propose to reflect on his production in this field between 1994-2004, taking into account the political intensity of this decade not only in Spain (the end of the González years, the two legislatures of Aznar and the socialist return to power), but also in the world (the attacks of September 2001 in the United States, the invasion of Iraq in March 2003, the attacks in Madrid in March 2004).  Trías offers us a unique and at the same time representative case study of the relations between the media (newspapers), politics, the intelligentsia and a very precise idea of power in Spain. His journalism and political positions have little or nothing to do with his philosophy, if not to trivialise it. But it is interesting to see how the philosopher refuses being taken for an intellectual, hiding this condition under the figure of the prophet and even the partisan.
