Abstract
In the chapter “De la ‘viveza criolla’” of his book Ecuador: señas particulares, Jorgenrique Adoum sketches a mordant portrait of Ecuadorianness through one of its most characteristic traits of its idiosyncrasy, viveza criolla, an endemic trickery attitude that corrupts society. With an analysis both philosophical and sociological, Adoum makes a diagnosis of the causes of such scourge and shows it appears at any level of the society. Though embittered, this portrait is still a declaration of love towards his country in the continuation of his poetic and narrative work.
