Abstract

The 5-5-16 manuscript of Sevilla (S) contains the very first complete Castilian translation, with Romance glosses, of the Ovid’s Heroides, according to the textual tradition before 1420. As this translation is rather late, it transmits in a single manuscript a real mixed of medieval authorities (German, Orléans…) through its marginalia, its accessus and the several translation methods as well. We study how the translation of the Ovidian text and its medieval paratext enables the translator of S to take own, complete, adapt and transmit these several authorities.
